Geothermal
How Geo Works
Using the earth for heating and cooling.
A geothermal system uses the earth as a source of heating and cooling. The system provides interior heating and cooling, and can replace traditional HVAC system. In the winter, the fluid in the pipes extracts heat from the earth and carries it into the building. In the summer, the system reverses and takes heat from the building and deposits it to the cooler ground.
Geo Heating
During the heating cycle, a geothermal system uses the earth loop to extract heat from the ground. As the system pulls heat from the loop, it distributes it through a conventional duct system or radiant floor system as warm air.

Geo Cooling
In the cooling mode, a geothermal system cools the facility by reversing the heating process. Instead of taking heat from the ground, it is removed from the facility and moved back into the earth loop. The cool air is then distributed through the duct system in the facility.

The three major parts to every geothermal system are:
- Geothermal heat pump to move heat between the building and the fluid in the loop
- Earth loop heat exchanger for transferring heat between fluid and the earth
- Distribution subsystem for delivering heating or cooling to the building
Geo Offers Key Benefits to Industrial Applications
Geothermal systems are renewable energy technology that offers many benefits over cooling tower based chilled-water HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) systems that are frequently used in a wide range of commercial and industrial applications:
- Reduced energy and maintenance costs
- Reduced construction costs
- Enhanced safety and beauty of property
- Higher efficiency
- Quiet comfort and satisfaction
- Lasting savings
- Environmentally friendly
- Reliable
Some of the Advantages of Geothermal include:
- Saves up to 70% on current heating bills
- Often pays for itself in less time than a traditional HVAC
- Involves no combustion, clean and safe to handle
- Takes up much less space than traditional HVAC
- Much more efficient than competing fuel technologies
–48% more efficient than the best gas furnaces on a source fuel basis
–75% more efficient than oil furnaces
–36% more efficient than gas heat pumps in heating mode and
–43% in cooling mode
